Skipping Breakfast May Cause Health Problems

Skipping breakfast, or having brunch (breakfast and lunch lumped together) may cause health problems, especially for women. The Food and Nutrition Research Institute said around 80 percent of women are estimated to be calcium-deficient. One of the causes is skipping breakfast. Based on the Recommended Energy and Nutrient Intakes, men and women 19 to 49 years old should have 750 milligrams of calcium intake daily. US Nutritional Development International said women are only getting 400 milligrams of calcium a day. Career-oriented women often skip breakfast for lack of time. This is true especially for those who work late into the night. They usually wake up the next day, have a quick shower and coffee. Aside from a calcium-deficient diet, physical, mental and emotional stress contributes to the decrease in calcium absorption. Calcium deficiency in women is also related to their child bearing function which depletes the body of a lot of calcium during pregnancy.
Having only coffee or tea for breakfast further decreases calcium absorption. The FNRI advises career people to limit the intake of caffeinated drinks to two mugs or glasses a day. Calcium is a very important mineral to strengthen the bones especially of women. This is the main building block of their bone structure. But how can a busy woman ensure adequate calcium intake? A healthier option is to increase consumption of milk and milk products which are high in calcium. One can load up on calcium-rich foods during the morning no matter how busy the schedule is by drinking two glasses of milk every day to meet the calcium requirement. for people on the go and is easy to prepare. Busy career women can also take yoghurt or add cheese to sandwiches as snack foods. They can add milk to soups and sauces, and cook favorite dishes with milk or cheese. For those who have lactose intolerance or do not prefer dairy products, there are other rich sources of calcium that they can include in their diet
Another option is taking cereal drink which is a complete drink. These include sardines, canned salmon, small fishes eaten with bones like dilis (anchovies), tokwa or tofu, small shrimps or alamang, and green leafy vegetables like malunggay (horseradish) leaves, saluyot (jute), and mustasa (mustard).

Well, I did not know about the problems. Calcium deficiency is a prevalent problem in women. I don’t know how skipping breakfast, or having brunch (breakfast and lunch lumped together) may cause health problems, but is calcium deficiency is a problem caused by it, I will never skip one in future.
