bingo playground_Did you know that at any age socializing with others increases our quality of life? Well, whether in a nursing home setting or still living independently at home, a senior citizen’s social needs can be met.  A big group setting is not necessary.  Maybe they prefer a one on one visit or experience. Socializing with others stimulated our brains and bodies.  Physical barriers of disabilities or transportation problems can be overcome and you can make it happen. It takes effort and time, but you will find that you can get as much out of it as you’re senior.  The image of an elderly person sitting alone, away from family and friends, languishing, is sad, but can be true. Depression can occur at any age, so call your senior and plan some fun!

Now, with the expansion of Bingo Playground across the country, there are numerous versions of bingo which now emulate the fast action of casino like table games but utilize the principals of bingo where players mark and monitor matrices cards with chips. Towards this point, big groups in skilled nursing can play bingo, and enjoy outings and other pursuits. Having a family reunion, organizing a dinner party or maybe a friendly bingo game can really get the senior socializing on a familiar foot. Sometimes it takes a family member to tag along with you to check it out. Seniors can Play like a child, just remember to provide resting places, appropriate foods and textures and nothing too overwhelming for them.

Though there are many variants of bingo playing but the object of the game remains the same which is to fill the appropriate amount of squares or required sequence of squares by getting those numbered squares called upon.  If a specified pattern is achieved, then the player usually wins a prize according to a prize table. Some versions are played until a player achieves a top level prize and then new numbers are drawn and the game begins anew. This type of bingo may be played over days, weeks or months depending on the difficulty of achieving a top level prize. So, if you have a square labeled 25 in the “B” column, and the bingo master calls out “B-25, then you would mark that square.  Once you have all of the necessary squares filled, scream “BINGO!”
