In December of 2004, the US announced a military siege and gave the city residents of Fallujah, home to about 300,000 Iraqi residents, the ultimatum of abandoning their homes or being attacked as terrorists and as a result about 250,000 left the city. During this period, many Iraqis had clandestinely assisted and supported U.S. and coalition forces, the reason why most of them received death threats from their peers as they were already considered traitors.
